News and updates ,
Bruno is sick
Bruno came down with pneumonia after being neutered. We have him home from the vets, but he spent 3 days on IV antibiotics at Mueller in Sacramento, to the tune of $1200 with xrays and blood work and antibiotics. He will be on antibiotics for the next 3 weeks and then he will have to go back for more xrays to make sure that his pneumonia is gone.
Reb needs a loving family
Update 5/22/08 We had to have Reb euthanized today. He was having a lot of difficulty breathing. his abdomen was full of fluid and it was pushing on his diaphragm so he could hardly breath. he could no longer get up and would have probably died in the next day or so . He also had a large mass in his abdomen and Nancy said it was probably cancer. She came to the house and euthanized him so he would not be stressed. If he would have lived until Nov., he would have been 16 years old.
Update 5/3/08 We took Reb to the vet last week and he is not doing well. He has some fluid in his abdomen and he probably has a cacerous mass. He is doing ok and is not in pain . He is eating very well and still loves to be brushed . He will be 16 in November.
This is Reb I don't know if it is short for Rebel or whatever. What I do know is that he was owned by the same people for 12 years and then one day they decided they did not want him any more and they threw him out of their apartment, in one of the busiest part of Sacramento(Arden and Howe). He apparently roamed around the apartment complex without food or water for three days until a very nice man caught him. Reb was wearing a rabies tag from a pet hospital in San Francisco. The people were so stupid that they did not remove his tag. The man phoned the hospital in SF and got the owners name.
Since they lived in the same complex he got their current phone
number from the manager. When he called them they told him "don't
bother to bring him back we will just throw him out again". The man then took Reb to the nearest pet hospital and then called me and I went and picked him up so he would not go to Sac City animal control.
I tried to complain to Sac City animal control about the abandonment but it fell on deaf ears. Clearly there is little justice for the animals living in the area serviced by Sac City animal control. .So what we have here is a very sweet older dog, fully vaccinated, neutered and housebroken.(I had his records sent to me from the SF pet hospital, placing his age at 12.5 years). He moves very well for his age and is in good health. He is very friendly and loving and he gets along well with my dogs. He is crate trained and is a very gentle soul. We would like to place him with an older couple since he is so quiet and gentle, where he can live out the remainder of his life with love and dignity.
Cruelity at its worst
Update 5/3/08 Alice went for her check up today and they said that she is now cancer free and she is cured. We will take her in in 6 months for her final check up but they said it is up to us. Everyone who
had worked on Alice the radiation vet Dr Gordon and oncology vets
came to see her today and to say goodbye. They took a lot of pictures of her because she is such a success story. Not may dogs survive her type of cancer that is in the mucous membranes. Dr Skropsky did her vet check today instead of the new vet that she was supposed to have, which was very good for Alice and us. we want to thank the many people that were involved in saving Alice. Alice was abused and neglected and through such generouse donations we were able to do everything we could to give her a second chance. She now has a loving home and is very happy. We will miss you Alice.
Update 8/06/07 Alice has had a tuff life. She came to us severly neglected and under weight. We worked so hard to save her life and put some weight on her. Soon as we got her weight up and she looked like she would survive she came down with cancer. After a long battle and chemo therepy I am happy to say that Alice is now cancer free and has been adopted. We couldnt have a better success story then Alice and we are so excited to see her get a loving happy home; yet we are also sad to see her go. Thank you for all the support we have recieved for Alice over this past year.
Update 9/26/07 Alice found a forever home. After all her struggles and fight for life she gets a second chance. Thank you for all the donations to help pay for her medical coverage. Without you she wouldn’t have survived.
Update 2/11/08 Alice had her 3 month tests at the vmth and she is still cancer free. She has one more at 3 months and then she goes to 6 months. She looks great.
This is what Alice looked like when we got her
